A law firm seeks a highly experienced attorney specializing in environmental and commercial real estate to join their team in New York, NY. This role offers a hybrid work opportunity across all NY and CT offices. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in permitting and entitlements for complex development projects.

Duties

  • Lead and manage permitting and entitlement processes for major infrastructure and development projects.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals.
  • Guide clients through environmental review frameworks and approval processes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and officials to advance project timelines.
  • Develop strategies to enhance project viability and regulatory defensibility.
  • Advise on compliance with various environmental regulatory regimes.
  • Evaluate environmental constraints and support mitigation strategies.
  • Represent clients in permitting, enforcement actions, and compliance matters.
  • Optional: Engage in commercial real estate transactional work.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of U.S. environmental law experience with a focus on permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York bar (or ability to waive in) required.
  • Admission to Connecticut or Massachusetts (or ability to waive in) preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and project teams.
  • Strong understanding of environmental risk and permitting strategies.
  • Knowledge of NEPA, CEQA, CERCLA, RCRA, UIC, ESA, SEQRA, and relevant regulations.
  • Experience with energy, infrastructure, industrial, or municipal projects.
  • Ability to assess complex environmental reports and technical data.
  • Familiarity with carbon-related regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to client service.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York bar (or ability to waive in).
