Job Overview:
A leading law firm in Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Litigation Attorney to join its family law practice. This role involves hands-on litigation, client relationship management, mentoring junior associates, and driving growth within the practice. The ideal candidate is results-driven, knowledgeable in domestic legal matters, and capable of working in a high-performance environment that values development and excellence.
Location:
Fairfax, VA
Duties:
Represent clients in court for matters including divorce, custody, adoption, and protective orders
Maintain a billable hour target of approximately 30 hours per week (1,600 hours annually)
Participate in the client intake process and contribute at least 5 hours per week to client acquisition
Ensure a client collection rate of at least 75% on a weekly basis
Collaborate with the financial team to forecast client billings
Mentor and support junior associates and legal staff
Participate in a structured client development program focused on delivering exceptional service
Maintain a full calendar of court appearances and hearings
Advise internal teams on legal interpretations and case strategies
Requirements:
Licensed to practice law in Virginia (additional bar admissions are a plus)
Experience in domestic litigation and civil law preferred
Track record of successful courtroom representation and client advocacy
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven leadership and mentoring abilities
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active member of the Virginia State Bar (required)
Additional bar admissions in other states with firm presence (preferred)
Skills:
Strong grasp of family law including custody, divorce, adoption, and financial settlements
Legal drafting proficiency for custody agreements, pre-nuptial agreements, and related matters
Ability to build rapport with clients and effectively present arguments in court
High level of organization and time management
Adaptable and growth-oriented, committed to ongoing legal education and excellence
