IP Patent Agent

Profile

A law firm in New York, NY, is seeking an IP Patent Agent with 2-8 years of relevant experience in the life sciences arena. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating patent portfolios, performing due diligence investigations, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and managing patent portfolios. Strong scientific background in biotechnology, excellent academic credentials, and communication skills are required.

Duties:

• Evaluate patent portfolios and conduct due diligence investigations
• Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences arena
• Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic advice to clients
• Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop and implement patent strategies
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
• Provide technical support in patent litigation matters
• Stay updated on relevant patent laws and regulations
• Assist with client counseling and education on IP matters
• Prepare and deliver presentations on IP topics

Requirements:

• 2-8 years of relevant experience in the life sciences arena
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Strong background in scientific fields relevant to biotechnology
• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry
• Experience in a law firm is required
• Excellent academic credentials and communication skills

Education:

Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry

Certifications:

Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Skills:

• Strong scientific background in biotechnology
• Excellent drafting and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
• Leadership skills and ability to work well with others
• Comfortable working directly with clients
• Proficiency in patent portfolio management software
