A law firm seeks a Deputy General Counsel for Litigation & Policy in Alexandria, VA. This role involves driving strategy and execution to address legal and policy challenges in a nationwide immigration practice. The Deputy General Counsel will manage litigation and policy matters, advise on legal risks, and strengthen governance practices.

Duties

• Manage all aspects of litigation and disputes, including privacy, ethics, and security.
• Provide strategic counsel on legal interpretation and policy decisions.
• Advise on legal, compliance, and ethical risks across departments.
• Build coalitions for strategic impact litigation to advance policy objectives.
• Assist in business negotiations and transaction agreements.
• Oversee investigations into ethical violations and ensure disciplinary actions.
• Provide guidance and training on ethical conduct and compliance.
• Manage outside counsel relationships and expenditures.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and current bar membership in good standing.
• 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney; 5+ years in legal counsel preferred.
• Extensive pretrial and trial experience in complex matters.
• Experience preparing witnesses and victims for legal proceedings.
• Proven leadership in managing teams and improving productivity.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in a dynamic environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse cultures and teams.
• Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

Education

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
