Qualifications: Candidate will teach up to 2 courses per semester and may teach first-year required courses. Provide instruction to law students, service to the law school and University, and engage with other professionals and the public to contribute to the intellectual exchange of ideas, to improve the law, and to educate the profession about the law. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction for law students. Supervise and advise students enrolled in self-directed legal research and writing projects. Teach doctrinal classes in the law school. Engage with student advisees to plan their law school curriculum. Devote substantial time to non-teaching activities essential to the operation of a law school committed to excellence. Attending meetings of the law faculty; active involvement in law school and University committees; student counseling and advising; maintain regular office hours; provide the Registrar with a copy of the syllabus for each course taught and a copy of every examination given; cooperate with the school’s efforts to comply with applicable law. Complete 10 hours of public service each year. For the purposes of this requirement, “public service” is broadly interpreted. It includes, traditional pro bono legal work. The requirement may be satisfied by any of the following activities, provided the faculty member receives no compensation (other than reimbursement of expenses): Volunteering at a nonprofit charitable organization (either law-related or not law-related) or advocating on its behalf; working on a pro bono case; serving at a public agency; providing legal education to the legal community or to the public at large. For this purpose, traditional legal scholarship does not qualify. Contributes to the intellectual exchange of ideas, enriches teaching, and educates the profession about the law. Engages in continuing professional development as a member of the academic community. Professional development activities may include: presentations to academic, professional, and community groups; participation in activities of regional, national, or international professional organizations; appointment to a consultant’s position or an editorship; participation in workshops or seminars; selection for grants, fellowships, and awards. Significant publication is required.
