Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm is seeking a Trusts & Estates Associate or Senior Associate Attorney to join its Private Client Department in the New York office. Duties:
Provide counsel on estate planning and administration for high-net-worth individuals and families
Advise on federal and state tax planning, including estate, gift, and income taxation
Draft estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives
Support succession planning for family-owned businesses and retirement assets
Counsel clients on charitable giving strategies and tax-exempt organizations
Handle probate and trust administration matters, including fiduciary representation
Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practices (e.g., corporate, real estate, tax) to serve client needs holistically
Requirements:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in sophisticated trusts and estates legal matters
Experience advising high-net-worth individuals and families
Demonstrated understanding of estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong client service orientation
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active member in good standing of the New York State Bar (required)
Skills:
Technical proficiency in estate and gift tax law
Strong drafting and analytical skills
Collaborative mindset with a detail-oriented work approach
Ability to provide practical solutions to complex legal problems
