Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Boca Raton, FL, is expanding its Intellectual Property division and seeks an experienced Patent Attorney with a strong background in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices. The selected candidate will provide strategic IP support across life science-related innovations, working closely with multidisciplinary legal teams and clients to manage complex patent portfolios and contribute to high-level IP decision-making.

Duties:

• Evaluate inventions across scientific domains for patentability

• Prepare, draft, and submit U.S. patent applications

• Manage U.S. patent prosecution processes and coordinate international filings

• Assist in due diligence reviews and overall IP portfolio strategy

• Conduct in-depth legal and technical research on patent-related matters

• Partner with internal legal professionals, clients, and technical stakeholders on IP development

• Serve as a point of contact between legal teams and external parties

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate IP setting

• Demonstrated experience in life sciences, specifically biotech, pharmaceuticals, or medical device sectors

• Admitted to a U.S. state bar and in good standing

• Registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (or eligible to take the exam shortly)

• Familiarity with patent prosecution in mechanical or electrical technologies is advantageous

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology)

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration Number (or eligibility to obtain)

• Active Bar License from any U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

• Strong scientific and technological literacy across life sciences domains

• Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills

• Collaborative team player with experience in cross-functional environments

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational abilities
