Job Overview:
A law firm located in Delray Beach, FL, seeks an experienced Patent Agent with a strong background in life sciences to support its expanding intellectual property practice. This professional will collaborate with legal teams and scientific professionals to manage a wide range of IP-related activities, with a primary focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical device innovations.

Duties:

• Review and assess the patentability of inventions across various technologies

• Prepare, draft, and submit U.S. patent applications

• Manage patent prosecution before the USPTO and coordinate international filings with overseas representatives

• Provide support for intellectual property due diligence, including freedom-to-operate and patent landscape analyses

• Assist in the strategic development and management of patent portfolios

• Conduct scientific and legal research relevant to patent law matters

• Engage with attorneys, internal stakeholders, and clients to align on IP strategies

• Participate in cross-functional initiatives and maintain communication with external legal advisors

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience within a legal or corporate IP environment

• Direct exposure to biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device innovations

• Familiarity with international patent prosecution processes

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related field such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a similar discipline

Certifications:

• Active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or qualification to sit for the Patent Bar

Skills:

• Strong foundation in scientific and technical concepts within the life sciences

• Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills

• Ability to manage priorities in a collaborative, deadline-driven setting

• Familiarity with mechanical or electrical patent work is advantageous
