Patent Agent needed for Edwardsville office

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent for their Edwardsville office. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors on new products, assist in identifying patentable inventions, and draft patent applications. They will also track the patent application process and respond to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The candidate must have a background in electrical engineering or biotechnology and at least 3 years of experience in patent law.

Job Overview:

• Work closely with inventors on newly created products
• Assist in identifying patentable inventions
• Research current patented technologies to support patentable work
• Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team
• Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent
• Conduct ability searches regularly
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements

Duties:

• Collaborate with inventors to understand new products and inventions
• Conduct research to identify patentable inventions
• Draft patent applications under the guidance of the patent team
• Monitor and track the patent application process
• Conduct ability searches to assess the patentability of inventions
• Address client challenges and needs promptly and effectively
• Respond to office actions and communicate with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
• Master’s Degree or PhD desired
• USPTO Registration required
• 3+ years of professional experience in patent law
• Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology
• Prior experience working in patent law
