Executive Claims Specialist/Programs Manager – General Liability

The candidate will be an acknowledged technical expert and be responsible for the resolution of high complexity and high exposure claims. Under minimal management direction, position will utilize a broad range of expertise, industry knowledge, and business acumen in managing the claims process within highest level of authority and autonomy. Second, will serve in a Managerial position coordinating the relationships between Markel, Program accounts, and MGAa/TPAs. Additional duties will include overseeing the handling of claims by TPAs for certain accounts, personally handling higher exposure claims that arise from those accounts, and conducting claim audits for those accounts. Handle high exposure claims for Programs to include analyzing coverage, directing investigation into loss and claimed damages, setting reserves within authority and/or making reserve recommendations to Senior Management, and negotiating/resolving claims. Provides technical expertise/training to MGA/TPA partners, other claims associates, underwriters and represents Markel at external panels and industry forums. Participates in cross-departmental special projects and/or product development initiatives, including serving as a project leader where appropriate. Participates in mediations, settlement conferences, trials, and industry conferences; some travel required. Analyzes loss information, claim trends and prepares reports and trends analysis for Programs underwriters and senior business stakeholders, presents information on claims and trends during monthly business meetings, and provides strategic advice to inform underwriting strategy. Runs point for Casualty Claims in onboarding new Programs, which includes making recommendations as to claims handling logistics and working with other departments within Markel to implement, coordinate and negotiate with TPAs (where applicable), and preparing claims handling guidelines. Serves as the point of contact between Markel, MGAs and TPAs for claims-related communications. Conducts regular audits of claims handled by TPAs and prepares reports and makes recommendations with regard to refinements in claims handling procedures and/or underwriting. Vets TPAs and makes recommendations to Markel Senior Management as to the selection of TPAs, where applicable.
