Job Description:

The Career Development Center (CDC) plays an essential part in equipping SUNY Oneonta students with the knowledge, skills, and intercultural competence they will need to succeed in their professional lives. The CDC staff foster student agency and appreciation of the power of reflection, goalsetting, and intentional efforts to bring aspirations to fruition.

The Career Development Center (CDC)'s next Director will lead from a passion for helping students succeed. The next CDC Director will also have the opportunity to chart the strategic direction of career services for SUNY Oneonta and further evolve a campus culture that recognizes and respects career development as an essential form of learning that compliments and reinforces academic preparation. The Director and staff will work collaboratively to implement professional development activities and programming tailored to students' needs amid rapidly changing digital environments and global contexts. The Director will oversee the provision of career planning services and daily operations of the office and supervise the CDC staff.

Essential Duties

Provide creative and strategic vision and leadership.

The Director will oversee the provision of career planning services and daily operations of the office and supervise the CDC staff.

Broaden opportunities for students and alumni. The Director will have an awareness of the employment landscape and an understanding of the broad career interests of liberal arts students.

The Director will work to strengthen and revitalize existing relationships with faculty and alumni to further the aspirations and goals of students and recent Oneonta graduates.

The Director will also forge new partnerships, including partnerships with corporations and non-profit agencies, to facilitate student placements in experiential learning opportunities and jobs.

The Director will engage institutional priorities, notably the University's efforts to serve students from diverse backgrounds and redress equity gaps through various diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

The Director will foster a culture of continuous improvement and use data for understanding student use of the CDC, staying apprised of shifting employment trends, and improving student services.

The Director will also promote services, programs, and resources to internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, employers, and alumni using marketing, including networking, brand management, social media, technology, professional presentations and print collateral.

Salary: $75,000

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

4 years progressively responsible experience related to undergraduate career counseling/advising or human resources, recruitment, and employment services.

Innovation, entrepreneurship, and the ability to conceive of and implement an exciting vision, in collaboration with others.

Comprehensive and contemporary knowledge of career services, trends and best practices, and employment trends and markets.

Strong technical skills LinkedIn, and other social media tools, along with the ability to learn and utilize other systems, applications, and tools.

Experience and demonstrated ability in leading and managing staff.

Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, leadership, and collaborative management skills

Ability to help students translate, articulate, and leverage an exceptional undergraduate and graduate experience

Ability to build relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders

Cultural sensitivity and competency around multiple dimensions of diversity and access and experience working with and serving diverse populations.

Ability to promote an inclusive and equitable working and learning environments for all students, employees, alumni, employers and other constituencies

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate degree, with a preference for a Master's in Counseling, Master of Business Administration (MBA) or related discipline or higher.

Previous experience with Handshake, Focus 2, Biginterview or other career services management systems.

Understanding of the academic environment and knowledge of student learning and student development

Experience supervising professional staff.
