Duties

  • Lead all stages of commercial litigation: pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals
  • Draft and review complex contracts, indemnity agreements, and settlement documents
  • Conduct and oversee depositions, hearings, mediations, and courtroom advocacy
  • Develop case strategy in collaboration with clients, expert witnesses, and co-counsel
  • Manage e-discovery workflows, document review teams, and case budgets
  • Mentor and supervise junior associates, paralegals, and support staff
  • Monitor developments in Virginia Code, federal statutes, and case law relevant to commercial disputes

Requirements

  • 20 years of commercial litigation practice, including trial experience
  • Active membership in the Virginia State Bar, in good standing
  • Proven record of achieving favorable verdicts and negotiated resolutions in high-value matters
  • Exceptional analytical, drafting, and oral advocacy skills
  • Strong client relationship development and business-generation capabilities

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required)

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Virginia Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Proficiency with litigation support and document-management platforms (e.g., Relativity, iManage)
  • Superior negotiation and settlement-structuring abilities
