Description

The University at Montana Western Division of Education welcomes applicants for a tenure line Assistant Professor in Special Education position. Primary responsibilities will include teaching for undergraduate and post baccalaureate students, advising, professional scholarship, and coordination of the special education endorsement program. Teaching assignments include courses in special education, possible other assignments in early childhood special education, and other courses in Education Division courses according to candidates’ expertise and interest.

The Special Education Program at University of Montana Western is a P12 minor/endorsement and is cross-categorically aligned with Montana State licensure. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach the courses and advance the program to meet special education teachers’ initial teaching expectations.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Special Education (ABD will be considered)

5 Years’ Experience Teaching/Leadership in Special Education (P12)

3 Years’ Experience in P12 Elementary Education

Experience in Teaching in Higher Education including both online and face-to-face instruction

Licensure in Special Education

Preferred Qualifications

Cross Categorical special education expertise in research-based pedagogy

Expertise in Behavior Analysis

Early Childhood Special Education experience/training

Expertise in Trauma Informed Science and Brain Based Research

Evidence of Community Service

Experience in academic advising and mentorship

Montana Western is the only public four-year college in the nation offering Experience One (X1), experiential learning delivered on the block schedule. Class sizes are small and students take a single course at a time, three hours each day for 18 days, before moving on to the next course. Each course is four credits and four blocks are offered each semester. The block schedule facilitates field and lab work, undergraduate research, study travel, and interdisciplinary teaching.
