Position Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A prominent law firm in Salt Lake City, UT is expanding its Intellectual Property team and seeks a Patent Agent with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in patent drafting and prosecution. Duties:

• Prepare, draft, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.

• Work closely with inventors, engineers, and legal professionals to translate technical innovations into intellectual property protections.

• Analyze and assess patent portfolios to offer strategic guidance.

• Conduct prior art searches and develop patentability opinions.

• Support post-grant proceedings and standards-essential patent work.

• Collaborate in cross-functional teams to develop IP strategies aligned with client goals.

• Engage in mentorship opportunities and internal development programs.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of current patent preparation and prosecution experience.

• USPTO registration as a Patent Agent.

• Demonstrated proficiency in working with technologies such as:

  • Wireless communications

  • AI and machine learning

  • Embedded systems

  • Communication networks

  • Semiconductor technology

  • Cloud computing and data storage

  • Wearable devices and health tech

• Comfortable working in both hybrid and in-person environments.

Education:

• Bachelors or advanced degree in one of the following (or comparable technical disciplines):

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Physics or Engineering Physics

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational capabilities.

• Ability to work independently or collaboratively depending on project needs.
