Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Insurance Liability Defense Attorney in Oakton, VA. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in State and Federal civil litigation, focusing on Property, Casualty, and Coverage matters. A Virginia license is required, with additional licensure in Washington D.C. and/or Maryland being advantageous. This is a full-time, in-person role.

Duties

• Represent insurance carriers and their insureds in liability defense from case inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
• Conduct depositions of plaintiffs, witnesses, and medical experts.
• Prepare for and appear at hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and mediations.
• Analyze liability exposure and develop cost-effective defense strategies.
• Collaborate with clients, claims adjusters, and medical professionals.
• Manage an active caseload and ensure compliance with statutory deadlines.
• Track and manage billable hours according to firm policies.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the Virginia Bar.
• 3-5 years of experience in liability insurance defense.
• Experience with depositions, pretrial motions, and expert witnesses.
• Strong academic background with excellent communication skills.
• Effective legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines and responsibilities independently.

Education

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in the Virginia Bar.
