Jobless claims rise after declining for the previous three weeks

Pasadena, CA — Initial jobless claims have risen after seeing a decline for three straight weeks. The number is now 472,000, an increase of about 12,000. Overall, 4.6 million Americans continued filing for unemployment benefits. Analysts feel that the June employment numbers may show a decline in private-sector jobs after five straight months of gains.

Analysts are increasingly quoted in the media as saying that there will be no quick short term recovery and many people will be chronically unemployed, primarily because of changes in the economy and not having the right skills.

But EmploymentCrossing CEO, A. Harrison Barnes is optimistic over the job outlook. ''In the last seven days alone, we have complied over 430,000 jobs throughout the country. There is work available in all the industries and in all the regions.'' The reason Barnes's company has been able to list so many jobs is that the company keeps researching not just job boards but employer sites as well for any openings and has aggregated them in a single database.

The sectors with the highest number of new openings this week are: healthcare (105,000), managerial (66,000), sales (55,000), and information technology (47,000).
