Congress seems unlikely to extend jobless benefits for 99ers; EmploymentCrossing finds 423,000 jobs.

Pasadena, CA — Congress has only two days left before the unemployment benefits for 99ers run out.

The 99ers are people who have been unemployed for over 99 weeks and after November 30 will stop receiving all federal aid. These 99ers are now campaigning for a fifth round of unemployment benefits called Tier 5. Around 800,000 Americans will be immediately cut off and then throughout December another 1.2 million people.

House Republicans on November 18 shot down a bill meant for the long-term unemployed. The bill would have extended their unemployment benefits for another three months. The reason given by the GOP was that the $12 billion price tag attached to it would just add to the deficit.

The bill failed when Democrats tried to get it passed under fast-track procedures where they could not muster a two-thirds majority required. Democrats could still bring the bill to the House floor under regular and more time-consuming debate rules that would allow the bill to pass with a simple majority. But it would still face obstacles in the Senate, where Republicans are poised to block the bill if it does not include offsetting spending cuts.

EmploymentCrossing CEO A. Harrison Barnes says “The Christmas season is a good time to get some temp work. Retail, food industry, and customer service are some places where there are several part-time and seasonal jobs coming up during December.” EmploymentCrossing has been able to find 423,000 jobs in the last seven days.

Only EmploymentCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
