U.S. initial unemployment claims at 8-month high, EmploymentCrossing finds 300,000 jobs nationwide.

Pasadena, CA — The initial jobless claims hit an 8-month high for the week ending April 30. The new jobless claims stood at 474,000. This is an increase of over 10 percent compared to the week ending in April 23.

The latest weekly claims figure has been part of the upward trend in initial jobless claims throughout April. Payroll firm ADP has reported that the private sector created 179,000 jobs in April.

The official job report from the Labor Department will be released on Friday. It is expected to show an increase of around 185,000 jobs in April. The total nonfarm private sector jobs figures for February and March were 194,000 and 216,000 respectively.

EmploymentCrossing CEO A. Harrison Barnes says that even though most of the data says that the jobs being created are paying fewer benefits, there are plenty of jobs being created. Barnes's firm has been able to find over 300,000 jobs in the last seven days.

The sectors with the most jobs on EmploymentCrossing are healthcare (61,000+), managerial (40,000+), information technology (35,000+), and retail (31,000+).
