Pasadena, CA, October 6, 2011 —Twenty-five major metropolitan areas have been carrying double-digit unemployment rates for three years. As per the report of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, one-fourth of the 100 biggest markets of U.S. have been burdened with jobless rates of 10 percent or higher since 2009.

Modesto and Stockton, CA, have the nation's most awful unemployment rates. Their unemployment rates reached double-digits in August 2008 and have remained above the 10 percent brink ever since. Hispanics in Connecticut had the third highest unemployment rate in the nation in 2010, with about 17 percent of the population unable to find a job. But Nevada and Rhode Island were the only two that had higher jobless totals among Hispanics.

South Florida is also among 25 major metropolitan areas with double-digit unemployment rates. Its unemployment rate in August 2009 reached to 10.9 percent; in August 2010 it jumped to 12.2 percent and in August 2011 fell to 11.2 percent. Baltimore has reached unemployment rates of 7.8 percent in August 2009, 8 percent in August 2010 and 7.9 percent in August this year. Its unemployment rate in August 2001 was 4.8 percent, way down from that this year.

The other states falling under the 25 major metropolitan areas are Atlanta, Bakersfield (CA), Bradenton-Sarasota (FL), Cape Coral-Fort Myers (FL), Charlotte, Detroit, Fresno (CA), Greensboro (N.C.), Jacksonville, Lakeland (FL), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, McAllen-Edinburg, Texas, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Modesto (CA), Orlando, Oxnard-Thousand Oaks (CA), Palm Bay-Melbourne (FL), Providence, Riverside-San Bernardino (CA), Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, Stockton (CA) and Tampa-St. Petersburg.
