BAC Economic Institute Report, Dec 2012 Finds Highest Concentration of Tech Jobs in Washington, EmploymentCrossing Jobs Data Confirms the Findings

December 25, 2012 — Pasadena, California — The December 2012 Bay Area Council Economic Institute Report shows that among US states, Washington had the highest tech-jobs’ concentration, about 11.4%, followed by Massachusetts at 9.4% and Virginia at 9.3%. The report was prepared after studying jobs data of the past one year. Current job openings listed at EmploymentCrossing show Washington still leading in tech job concentration though other states are coming up fast.

The Bay Area Council Economic Institute study found that among US states, “Western, Mid-Atlantic and some Northeastern states had the highest concentrations of high-tech employment in 2011. While average concentration of high-tech jobs in USA in 2011 was 5.6%, each of the states, including Washington, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland, Colorado and California had above 8% concentration in high-tech jobs.

High-tech job openings on Employment Crossing as of 25 December 2012 reflects the trend as continuing. Currently, on Employment Crossing, against 117,847 job openings in Washington, 26, 856 were in Information technology, followed by Healthcare jobs and managerial jobs. In Massachusetts, from 58, 567 job openings currently listed, Information Technology jobs were at the third position with 8,910 jobs, though Healthcare topped in current job openings in the state. Again Information Technology jobs continue to consist of the highest number of job openings in Virginia with 13, 824 high-tech job openings within total 67, 569 job openings listed. In Maryland too, high-tech jobs showed a healthy concentration with 9, 358 current job openings in information technology against a total of 46,888 job openings.
