Jobless Rate Among Techies Half That of National Average, EmploymentCrossing.com Finds Over 240,000 Tech Jobs Vacancies

January 16, 2013 — Pasadena, California — The unemployment rate among IT professionals is almost half that of the national average, as reported in a recent InfoWorld article.

The sector is also doing well compared to the dot-com bubble burst of 2001. Since June 2009, at least 180,000 IT jobs have been created. Job search site EmploymentCrossing.com has also been able to track down almost 240,000 jobs in the industry.

The relatively high number of hires in the IT sector compared to the rest of the economy is responsible for IT professionals having an unemployment rate of just 3.3 percent compared to the 7.8 percent jobless rate nationwide. Data from EmploymentCrossing.com shows that California continues to lead the country with 38,000 IT job openings. Texas is in second place with 17,000 IT jobs and New York comes third with 15,000 job openings.

In terms of job profiles, cloud computing is emerging as one of the most in-demand skills with 14,000 job openings. Database administrators and database analysts also continue to be in high demand with over 13,000 job openings. CEO Harrison Barnes of EmploymentCrossing.com says that the industry is continuing to show more growth. “Over the past 12 months, we have seen more job openings every month in IT. In fact, in the last 2 weeks itself, our site has managed to track down 20,000 more jobs.”

I like the volume of jobs on EmploymentCrossing. The quality of jobs is also good. Plus, they get refreshed very often. Great work!
