EmploymentCrossing.com Supports Jobs Report on Falling Unemployment Rate by Reporting 1.8 Million Job Openings

March 17, 2013   |  PDF version  PDF version

March 17, 2013 — Pasadena, California — Despite the sequestering efforts and the political gridlock in Washington that has led to automatic spending reductions recently, the recent Labor Department report stated that the economy added 236,000 jobs in February 2013.

This consequently led to the decrease in the unemployment rate to 7.7 percent in February, down from 7.9 percent in January 2013. In the mean time, job aggregator website EmploymentCrossing.com has listed a total of 1,837,769 jobs covering major sectors on its website, and 1,404,042 jobs this month alone, which was much more than the 165,000 additional jobs that Wall Street expected in February.

According to reputed experts, despite the growth this month, they expected to see some slowdown in April and May 2013, due to the sequester. Furthermore, [some estimates are that the federal spending cuts would cost about 700,000 jobs this year, and the second and third quarters could bear the brunt of the damage. Also, many economists are predicting a slow pace of job creation, which would leave the unemployment rate hovering at around the same level as currently.

On EmploymentCrossing.com, the healthcare industry shows the highest number of job openings at 307,572. Sales positions are in high demand among employers as well, which have resulted in 170,582 sales job openings. The retail industry is also still a huge jobs creator with 124,647 job openings.

The other top five industries in terms of job creation are:

Information Technology- 134,472 job openings

Nursing- 116,902 job openings

Engineering - 97,336 job openings

Hospitality- 92,616 job openings

Financial Services- 72,557 job openings
