Jobs Report Shows Economy Added 165,000 Net Jobs, EmploymentCrossing Backs Report of Robust Jobs Market By Listing 2.2 Million Job Openings

Pasadena, California-  The April jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is a welcome surprise as it shows that 165,000 nonfarm net jobs were added last month.

The unemployment rate has stayed around the same, at 7.5 percent. Job aggregator website EmploymentCrossing.com supports this report of a recovering jobs market with its own data. The site has been able to track down 2.2 million job openings as of the first week of May.

The jobs report also mentions that the main industries in terms of adding jobs were professional and business services, healthcare, retail and hospitality industry. The stock market also reacted well to the upbeat jobs report, with the Dow topping 15,000. The S&P 500 and NASDAQ also closed the week on a high note.

EmploymentCrossing.com has been able to gather 379,000 healthcare job openings. This industry has been able to remain in the top five industries in terms of jobs creation on the site for the last six months. Customer service job openings are also increasing across the country, with EmploymentCrossing finding 286,000 positions. An increasing number of these job openings now require bilingual skills, with Spanish being the most preferred language.

Retail – 200,000 job openings

Engineering- 160,000 job openings

Hospitality – 158,000 job openings

Nursing - 138,000 job openings

Financial Services- 119,000 job openings

Accounting – 98,000 job openings
