Contract Manager Jobs

The principal duty of a contract manager job is the work necessary to secure a contract to acquire or provide goods and services. The contract manager locates sources for products and procures the cheapest and the best services available to him. He or she develops new acquisition plans, source-selection plans, and contract terms. The contract manager may also perform procurement planning to develop objectives in terms of competition and price range. A contract manager also monitors the contractor's performance, and performs contract administration activities. Sometimes the contract manager independently reviews contractor performance through site visits and ensures correspondence for completion of applicable contract clauses. The contract manager principally constructs contractual vehicles or instruments, including pricing arrangements, subcontracting policy, set-aside policies, and similar considerations.

A candidate looking for a contract manager job must have a bachelor's degree that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management.
