There are two types of telecom consultant job openings: inside sales and outside sales. Primary duties for an inside sales telecom consultant may include cold-calling, greeting, and meeting customers at a retail outlet, demonstrating the product, making the customer aware about the product features and pushing up sales. Major duties for an outside sales consultant are preparing or working on leads generated by the telemarketing team, fixing an appointment with the prospect and convincing him/her to buy the product, and closing the sale.
A telecom consultant position may also be referred to as sales consultant, wireless consultant, inside sales representative, telecom sales executive, senior telecom consultant, lead sales consultant or wireless retail sales executive. Some roles in the wireless telecom consultancy are business-to-business and have a good earning potential; some are commission-based.
Educational requirements for telecom consulting positions vary as per job requirements—one may need to possess a high school diploma, a bachelor\'s degree, or even an MBA. Prolonged success in exceeding sales quotas at entry-level positions paves the way for managerial positions.
