Youth Counselor Jobs

Youth counselors serve to provide direct counseling services to students in local elementary and middle schools who have been assessed as at risk by their school administration or faculty team. Youth counselor jobs involve helping young people learn the skills they need to become productive members of society. Youth counselors supervise at-risk adolescents; provide safety, security, direction, and role modeling for residents; and help young people with daily routines which help them achieve treatment goals. Youth counselors work cooperatively with other adults to plan growth and adventure experiences for youth. Youth counselors lead work and play activities, as well as structured meetings where students resolve differences. Most importantly, youth counselors foster a healthy, secure environment in which young men and women can turn their lives around.

Youth counselors must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Experience working with youth who have substance abuse or behavioral issues is preferred. Youth counselors must be accessible during work hours to perform community, school, and home visits. They must be able to work a range of hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, on a continuous basis. Work hours vary and are flexible based on caseload.
