Tax Auditor Jobs

A tax auditor audits taxpayers' financial records for compliance with tax codes. A person in a tax auditor job usually works for authorities who collect revenues or taxes. In a tax auditor job, one has to assess taxpayers to ensure maximum compliance and revenue for the employing authorities. A person in a tax auditor job researches tax returns, permits, newspaper articles, and other sources to select businesses to audit, detect non-compliance and determine amount to be collected. Sometimes a person in a tax auditor job performs special regulatory audits and other duties required by the tax authorities. Usually, a person in a tax auditor job is responsible for all communications with the taxpayer being audited including the request for audit records, selection of sample periods and scheduling of the audit. A common function in a tax auditor job is the preparation of appropriate work papers to collect audit information. This may require consultation with the Information Technology (IT) Department when working with more advanced accounting systems.
