Muncie Indiana Mayor Sharon McShurley has revised a plan to lay off four people in the street and engineering departments, deciding instead to lay off three.
McShurley had considered including a code enforcement officer in the layoffs, but instead decided to retain the position as part of an initiative to improve enforcement of parking codes.
By better enforcing parking codes, the city hopes to generate more than enough revenue from tickets to pay for its two code enforcement officers.
The layoffs are effective at the end of this year.
McShurley said the cuts were necessary because of declining revenue from state cigarette and gas taxes, which finance municipal street and engineering departments in Indiana.
