While the state lost over 4,100 jobs in June, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported a tenth of a percent drop, to 5.3%, in its unemployment rate.
With a slow building market and retail activity, combined with the loss of Jevic Transportation and its 1,000 employees, New Jersey saw its four-year project of employment expansion come to an end.
Even though it saw an increase, the state is left searching for ways to increase jobs in the private sector. Although 5.3% is below the national unemployment rate of 5.5%, New Jersey can’t just rely on the numbers.
