The unemployment rate continues to increase all over America as the number of job cuts rose in the month of July.
According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an organization that keeps track of monthly job cuts, US businesses announced 69,572 job cuts in July. That is 5,229 more jobs cut as compared to the previous month of June.
A Gallup Poll which inquired about new hiring activity discovered that in the first week of July, 36.9% of the employees surveyed said that their companies were expanding, while 16.5% indicated their companies were phasing out jobs.
Rick Cobb, Executive Vice President of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in a release, “The decline in hiring that we are seeing, combined with continued downsizing, indicates that the job market is still struggling to gain momentum.”
On Friday, the Labor Department is scheduled to report on July’s unemployment and non-farm payroll growth.
