Nothing is secure in today’s job market, especially when it comes to unemployment compensation.
Those who are now receiving unemployment benefits will be happy to hear that thanks to the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, extension of benefits will include an additional 13 weeks above the regular 26 week period.
The bad news is that many people who do lose their jobs may not qualify for these benefits at all. To qualify, many states require recently laid-off workers to have previously been employed full-time and have been working for a certain amount of time.
The extension of benefits is federally funded and allows the unemployed to receive additional checks for half the time of the original claim.
