Everyone knows the cost of living is at an all time high. Wages and salaries must rise as inflation grows. But once you cash that paycheck, be careful how you spend it; fees that come in addition to advertised prices are causing consumers to spend more than they expect to.
Late fees, surcharges, service fees -- these are no longer a surprise, but a result of companies passing along their overhead to the consumer.
“Junk Fees,” as most charges can be classified, don’t account for anything specifically, but simply reflect the cost of doing business.
Competition forces companies to keep the advertised prices low to lure the customer in. From there, it is their objective to groom up your spending with add-ons.
The answer is to be careful with your money. Shop around when on the market for services, trips, and banks. Communicate that you are comparing prices, and doing your homework. Be sure to get “complete pricing,” to know what the bill will be down the road.
Above all, in the time we work, earn a paycheck, and ultimately spend it in the marketplace, we must be met by business honesty. We should understand their cost of operating, but find a fair price for what we are paying for.
