The earthquake that hit Los Angeles around 11:42 a.m. this morning measured as a magnitude of 5.4. Caltech officials downgraded the original magnitude of 5.8, and said they doubted the shake caused major structural damage. There were around 11 aftershocks reported later.
The quake was centered in Chino Hills, 30 miles east of LA, and was felt all the way to San Diego.
Here in Malibu we felt the earthquake shift, as compared to a rolling earthquake that one normally would feel in the city, and we could feel it last for at least 10 seconds.
Brian Humphrey, spokesman from the LA Fire Department, said that there were no reports of damage or injuries in LA, and Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Kim Hughes mentioned that there were no electrical outages reported in LA due to the quake.
