The Saskatchewan and Canadian governments are working together to improve relations in their foreign worker programs. The plan is to temporarily implement improvements to the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).
Currently, the Immigrant Nominee Program has six permanent categories that include skilled workers, health professionals, students, and entrepreneurs. It will expand to include a hospitality sector with hotel housekeeping and server positions.
Saskatchewan’s hospitality industry is important to tourism for the province and is one of its fastest growing industries. The industry generates more than $1.5 billion, and Saskatchewan workers fill more than 55,000 jobs.
