A nine-state business survey released by
Creighton University revealed how the job market changed across the Midwest in August.
The university’s Business Conditions Index rates anything above a 50 as growth, and below a 50 as contradiction. The survey showed a 51.4 in August, down from a 51.5 in July and up from a 50.5 in June.
In the region studied, the unemployment index changed from 41.4 in July to 47.5 in August.
In Minnesota, the employment index was 42.6 in August. The state’s
business growth index fell from 50.3 in July to 44.6 in August. Officials claim the state has been struggling in the food processing, nondurable goods, and production sectors.
The Institute for Supply Management also reported that the nation’s manufacturing sector fell slightly, from 50 in July to 49.9, in August.
