This video is about President Bush’s decision to withdrawal US troops from Iraq.
President Bush announced the withdrawal of nearly
8,000 US troops in Iraq by February and the addition of troops in Afghanistan due to worsening violence in the country.
The
announcement means that the number of US combat brigades in Iraq will remain the same during Bush’s last months in office. It also reflects the growing concern from the Pentagon regarding the situation in Afghanistan.
Bush’s plan is likely to be his last major decision on deployment of US troops during his presidency. Future decisions on troop levels will soon be turned over to either Senator John McCain (R-AZ) or Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) after taking office January 20, 2009.
The net effect of the reductions will bring US troop presence to about 138,000. Bush claims additional troop withdrawal might be possible during the first half of next year if progress continues in Iraq.
