At a time when it needs some good news, the state of Texas will be receiving nearly $16 million for relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
The US Department of Labor is releasing a National Emergency Grant to the Texas Workforce Commission, with $7.9 million coming immediately. The rest will be available as long as the need persists.
Twenty-nine Texas counties will be eligible to receive a part of the grant money. It will be used to fund some 600 temporary jobs for
major reconstruction projects in the Lone Star State.
Work will include all phases of rebuilding, from clean up and demolition to repair and ultimately reconstruction. The grant money will also go towards
humanitarian needs like food, shelter, and clothing.
