The American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition released a report saying that the state of Michigan has lost 315,200
manufacturing jobs over the past eight years. The job losses represent a 35.5% decline, which is the largest percent decline in the nation.
The report was released on Friday and claims Michigan has lost a total of 489,900 jobs over those eight years. Such losses are nearly three times worse than during the Rust Belt downturn of 1974 to 1982.
The worst total job losses have occurred in metropolitan areas Detroit-Livonia, Flint, Jackson, and Saginaw. Michigan has heavily depended on manufacturing jobs and is a battleground state in the
upcoming election.
