Sixty percent of young voters have seen a significant drop in entry level jobs in the past year, according to a survey by career web site Experience.com.
The survey polled undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young professionals, who planned to vote in the November election. Seventy-seven percent of these so-called “Gen Y” voters said the condition of the job market will affect how they vote on November 4th.
More than 12,900 Gen Y voters from all 50 states completed the online survey from Experience
Economic stimulation and the energy crisis were the issues that survey respondents considered the most important.
"We were somewhat surprised to see that the pendulum for young voters has shifted away from social concerns, toward jobs and the economy," said Jenny Floren, CEO of Experience.com.
Sixty-two percent of young voters said they would vote for Obama; 21 percent planned to vote for McCain.
