Unemployed Delawareans now qualify for seven extra weeks of unemployment benefits, thanks to the extension of a federal unemployment program, Governor Ruth Ann Minner has announced.
The unemployment insurance extension is the second announced in the past four months, and brings total unemployment benefits eligibility to 46 weeks. The move will affect 5,000 Delawareans who are either receiving unemployment benefits or whose benefits recently have run out.

President George W. Bush signed legislation in July, that extended benefits by 13 weeks for people who have filed unemployment claims since May 7, 2006. Bush signed the second, seven-week extension Friday in a move meant to assist citizens in the troubling economy.
