According to a new report by the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, job losses in West Michigan during the third quarter were "modest," but unemployment rates remain high and are likely to worsen.

Total employment in West Michigan fell by 0.3 percent in the July through September period, the report states.

The unemployment rate has reached 7.7 percent and measures of local economic strength, such as housing activity and help-wanted advertisements, continue to decrease.
