New York City’s unemployment rate is now the highest since February 2005 after jumping to 6.3 percent in November from 5.7 percent in October and 5.1 percent a year ago, according to a state Labor Department report.
Financial activities jobs in the city totaled 454,900, a loss of 16,400 over the past 12 months, with 2,400 of those cut in November.
The city and state both experienced a worsening job picture, but have remained in better shape than the U.S. as a whole, which had an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent, the Labor Department said.
