The retail banking manager leads all aspects of retail distribution for bank retail products, ensuring the best handling of his or her client's existing portfolio. Those in retail banking jobs are expected to concentrate on growing retail sales in accordance with their companies' established strategic expansion plans. A retail banking manager also ensures that all business practices, policies, and procedures comply with regulatory principles. Lastly, the retail banking manager initiates cross-selling initiatives involving other bank departments.

A bachelor's degree in retail management is preferred, although one can have any other type of bachelor's degree. Applicants for retail banking job openings with MBA or MA degrees are generally preferred, although anyone applying for the position of retail banking manager should have a strong track record of building a successful retail origination. Strong management experience coupled with a track record of successful internal business strategy implementation is a plus.
