A public radio broadcaster pitches and reports breaking news, and other features. A public radio broadcaster delivers stories, working toward the program’s writing style and pace. A public radio broadcaster delivers substantive reports on varied subjects on deadlines; produces news reports and interviews as assigned, for play on statewide network, and also sets up live or prerecorded interviews as assigned. Duties include researching topic, scheduling guest, and conducting issue oriented on-air interviews. A public radio broadcaster participates in on-air fundraising and public appearances/promotional events. A public radio broadcaster also participates in news division, and statewide meetings as well as daily news program planning meetings, contributing ideas for issue-oriented, analytical interviews, or reports. A public radio broadcaster works with news editors to generate ideas for programs. A public radio broadcaster produces or assists in producing special programming, as assigned, and also gathers information and audio for reports. A public radio broadcaster has hands on experience with production and studio equipment and facilities. A public radio broadcaster assembles edits and mixes stories for air as well as assists with bureau duties as delegated by bureau chief or senior editor.
A public radio broadcaster requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent as well as three or more years broadcasting or similar experience. Some experience at a national level is preferred. A public radio broadcaster should demonstrate the ability to deliver stories with program writing style, pace. A public radio broadcaster should effectively execute assignment with some direction and guidance on concepts and writing. Ability to handle challenging assignments and excellent communication skills are important.
