Meanwhile, jobs in the manufacturing and construction industry are decreasing. Over the past year there was a loss of 1,300 manufacturing jobs, which, according to chief economist for the Long Island Association Pearl Kamer, "have been consistently 'slipping away.'"
But total job growth, too, has dropped. The culprits? Kamer blames high taxes and the lack of affordable housing.
