Other data from the survey showed that 23% of reservists polled didn't return to their jobs because they had changed in some way or their employers didn't grant them immediate reemployment.
Although the law protects reservists from job discrimination and grants them a "five-year cumulative leave with rights to their old jobs upon their return," there have been problems, as the survey results have shown. And according to the American Bar Association, these problems were showing up as early as 2004, when the government was "not seen as an aggressive advocate for the returning veteran."
