Glen Beck and His Career of Political Activism

The recent Glen Beck rally held on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King's ''I Have a Dream'' speech is considered a resounding success though controversies abound about the numbers that actually attended. Glen Beck held the rally for ''Restoring Honor'' in his trademark charismatic style promoting a conservative conscience. While the President commented that he did not watch the conservative Glen Beck rally, nevertheless he could not ignore it and had to comment.

Glen Beck has the career of a conservative mass media host, entrepreneur, and political commentator. He is immensely admired by the masses and is popular for his fiery remarks on the system. Glen Beck hosts the Glenn Beck Program, a popular talk show on the radio that is aired on premiere radio networks throughout US. Glen Beck also hosts a show on the Fox News Channel and writes prolifically.

Glen Beck has had the career of one of the most successful political writers of US and has authored six New York Times bestsellers with five of them debuting at the No. 1 slot. Glen Beck is also a successful entrepreneur and is the founder and CEO of Mercury Radio Arts, which is used to prepare and distribute content for radio, television, internet, book publishing, and the theatre stage.

Glen Beck started his career as a disc-jockey for a radio station at the age of thirteen. Glen Beck was raised as a Roman Catholic but later converted to Mormonism after a long period of struggling with alcoholism. His troubled childhood including the divorce of his parents and suicide of his mother created in him a passion for conservative values that he continues to champion through all his efforts. Glen Beck has a staunch following who view him as a fighter for preserving American values and promoting secular progressive policies. Glen Beck is known to put his faith in the values inherent in the American Constitution and urge the people to assert their rights wherever he views them to be breached.

Glen Beck's career is one of conservative beliefs, though with a broad world-view. His core values include the right to life, freedom of religion, limited government, family values, private charity, and personal responsibility. Glen Beck is a proponent of living within means and abhors debt as a cause of pain at both government and personal levels. He is also a supporter of individual gun ownership and views gun control legislation as a breach of people's rights.

Glen Beck theorizes that many so called progressives and their influence on American life has led to the destruction of ''America as it was originally conceived.'' According to him ''progressivism has less to do with the parties and more to do with individuals who seek to redefine, reshape, and rebuild America into a country where individual liberties and personal property mean nothing if they conflict with the plans and goals of the State.'' Glen Blake also blames a section of political stalwarts and thought leaders for working surreptitiously and subtly for big business. While people say his business is politics, Glen Beck states that it is entertainment. If there was a career of political entertainment outside the Senate, then Glen Beck would obviously be one of its greatest champions.

While every human makes occasional errors, and it is the same with Glen Beck, the larger part of his views and comments are both learned and pointed. They rarely fail to hit the mark, and that is what endears him to millions of people as evinced by the recent Glen Beck rally. Since private opinion expressed in public forms the basis of public opinion, there is no doubt that Glen Beck's career has made him one of the most influential opinion leaders of present day America.
