Being distracted from the track to high achievement is something that scares most ambitious individuals. Of course, being a competent fellow, you would like to avoid such situations as much as you can. But how can you analyze if nothing is really getting wrong with your track to the top? A well known research by Michael Lombardo unveils around six major indicators or signs of career derailment. By going through these six signs, you may be able to discover if you are avoiding the career derailment nightmare or not.

1. Disagreeing With Top Management

It goes without saying that there is no margin for disagreement with your higher management. Even if your point of view is right, just remember, “The boss is always right!” Therefore, the first sign of career derailment can be that you are displaying a disagreement with your higher management.

2. Being Unable To Build Teams Effectively

Being a manager, you need to be very vigilant at spotting the right talent for the right position. You need to bring diversity in your team, should be able to make your people work in cooperation with each other and should develop a sense of cohesiveness in the working unit. Being unable to ensure a good team building is of course the second sign of career derailment.

3. Being Unable To Develop Working Relationships

If you are one such member of the team who would stay isolated and would not interact with the team members then you career is in trouble for sure. You need to remind yourself that your success lies with your popularity as a team member and not as a sole performer.

4. Lacking Proper Follow Through

If you have fallen into a permanent habit of forgetting your commitments and missing deadlines and meetings, then you are very likely to become an unreliable member of the team. Remember, your being careless to follow through can become a serious reasons for your career derailment.

5. Being Unable To Shift From a Technical Role To Strategic Position

In most of the cases, technical experts like those of engineers find themselves stagnant at their technical positions and even after having spent long time in the organization, find themselves completely unaware of the strategic role they need to play or that they can play in the organization. Being a technical expert, you need to develop yourself into a strategic mind as well which you can do by contributing in devising organization’s strategies and asking your top management about their feedback on your strategic abilities.

6. Relying On Something Other Than Your Hard Work To Get To a Better Position

It would probably be the most foolish, rather negative approach if a worker thinks that he can progress only because all the important members of the team are on his side or the powerful boss is favoring him a lot. You need to remind yourself that your ladder to a better position if your hard work and nothing else.
