Japan unveils $117 billion stimulus package
With a vow to beat deflation and slow the appreciation of the Yen, Japan?s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, brought forth a $117 billion fiscal stimulus plan last Friday; bringing the total stimulus funding in Japan above $226 billion. Government sources estimate that the new package could create 600,000 jobs and increase Japan?s GDP by 2%. Still to be determined is whether the Bank of Japan will cooperate with the stimulus plan. The new plan boosts spending on public projects, disaster rebuilding, and aid to small businesses.
