Amongst the job market uncertainties, the figure of laid off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits fell considerably last week, reported U.S. Department of Labor. Applications for jobless benefits dropped to 308,000 from 320,000 with a total drop of 12,000. The four-week average for claims also fell to 310,250 from 313, 250, a total fall of 3000 claims. U.S. Department of Labor stated that this was a clear indication of the labor market being able to resist the impact of a severe slump in housing and a credit crunch which existed in the financial market in August.
